FLAC vs WAV vs WMA: Convert Audio Files on iOS Devices

We all know that FLAC has the lossless audio quality comparing to other common audio files such as WAV, WMA, etc. While due to IOS supported audio formats, we are usually failed to import the FLAC files to IOS devices to enjoy the lossless quality. This article can tell us more about FLAC, WAV, WMA audio files.

Expand knowledge of FLAC, WAV, WMA audios.

FLAC – FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, and is the most popular lossless audio format today. FLAC is free, open-source lossess audio format which does use compression, which means that the file sizes are much smaller than that of a WAV file, but maintains the same sound quality as the source audio. FLAC is still not supported by all devices, including some media players

WAV – The WAV or Waveform Audio File Format is a true uncompressed lossess audio format developed by Microsoft. This means that the resulting digital file is an exact copy of the source audio. Most audio players and devices can play WAV files, but the resulting file sizes are so large.

WMA – WMA is a microsoft proprietary audio format that stands for Windows Media Audio. It is similar to MP3 in ways, but is much less supported by other applications and devices. There is no real advantage in choosing WMA over the other formats.

So do you wanna add FLAC, WAV, WMA audio files to IOS devices via iTunes? Though enjoying the high lossless audios on IOS devices is such a cool matter, we all know IOS can just support like MP3, AAC audio formats. Any way there we can convert the files to MP3 or AAC, etc for IOS also with the lossless audio quality preserved? I just find the PavtubeVideo Converter for Mac (Windows version)can do this audio conversion well. With the experience of converting FLAC format to MP3, I’m so glad to tell you some more details.

Step 1. Download and install this iTunes converter on your computer, when the main interface pops up in front of us, we can easily load the original files in with “Add video” or “Add from folder”

Step 2. Select MP3 or ALAC as the output format. Click “Profile” drop-down button to set “Common Audio’>>’MP3 MPEG Layer-3 Audio (*.mp3)” as the suitable output. This item can bring us the supported formats for IOS devices.

Step 3. Come to the ‘Settings’ interface, here we can also adjust the audio parameters we want to the output audio files, such as the audio codec, bitrates, sample rate, etc. For those advanced users, you won’t be disappointed about it!

Finally, go back to the main interface if you have done all the preparation work. Hit the ‘Convert’ button to get our job started. The process will take you some time, which mainly depends on the size of all imported FLAC files and the performance of your Mac. Such operation above we can also easily work well with WAV, WMA audios. Let’s just have a try!
